Time To Say Goodbye

I've known it was time to say goodbye to xanga for some time now. Just wasn't sure who would be the first one to officially announce it. I think almost every person that was on here now has a blog of their own, or at the very least is on Facebook. If you want to follow my blog, here it is:
http://thelifeofapastorswife.blogspot.com/

No guarantees for the entertainment value you'll receive. Just a way for me to express the opinions I have about 3 times a year :)

Xanga has been a wonderful way for me to keep up with my old life as I started a new life. And now the old life has a new life of its own. So I'll join the old life in its new life, and say good bye to the old life's old life.

Ha ha - I think I am funny. I guess some things never do change!

This is mostly for Dana and Dano Duck. They will possibly understand these readings. It's the MRI results:

There is no evidence of abnormal marrow signal. The craniocervical junction is unremarkable and the intrinsic cord signal is normal in appearance. There is a reversal of the lordotic curve, apexing at C5. The neural foramina appear patent throughout the cervical and upper thoracic spine.

C2-C3 and C3-C4 are unremarkable.

C4-C5 posterior disc displacement as a shallow central subligamentous protrusion is noted, indenting the ventral aspect of the thecal sac without evidence of neural compression.

C5-C6 posterior disc displacement as a central subligamentous protrusion is demonstrated, indenting the ventral aspect of the thecal sac, resulting in ventral cord abutment.

C6-C7 disc dehydration is noted. Posterior disc displacement as a broad-based central subligamentous protrusion is identified, indenting the ventral aspect of the thecal sac, resulting in gentle ventral cord abutment.

Conclusion:
1. Broad-based central subligamentous disc protrusion involving C4-C5, C5-C6, and C6-C7, resulting in ventral cord abutment at C5-C6 and C6-C7.
2. Cervical arcual kyphosis.

I picked up the MRI and Xrays yesterday so that I can take them to Evansville on Monday.

Not much else to report in the cornfield.....

Found out yesterday that it is 3 discs, not 2. And they are herniated, not just bulging. That means they are leaking fluid. My chiro says I am close to being at the point where surgery is not an option, it is a necessity. But right now, he thinks I may be able to be treated and not need surgery. I have had a few people tell me that they had an epidural, and that did the trick for them. I am hoping, and obviously praying, that I can be treated without surgery. My doctor appointment is next Monday in Evansville at 10:30am. I have already been warned by several people that this doctor has a horrible bedside manner, but that he is very good at what he does.

Heading to the elementary for a morning of secretary subbing.

Sending love to you from the cornfield!

Yesterday was a day for doctors I suppose.

I called my regular doctor for an appointment because I've been feeling nauseous. Got in to see her at 11:00.
Talked to my chiropractor's office about my neck MRI. They got it okayed by the insurance. The MRI people called to see when I could come in. Got that scheduled at 10:00. It is in the same building as the regular doctor, so that worked out lovely.
And then had my chiro appointment at 3:30.

Not sure what is causing the nausea. It started with a 'spell' on Tuesday afternoon. I had a few theories and the doc said they could all be possibilities. I am having my blood sugar tested next Friday. In the meantime she gave me a pill to take. If that doesn't help within a couple days, she gave me a script for something to help with the acid in my stomach. She doesn't really think it is the acid though, because I don't have any burning etc.

Now for the MRI and chiropractor...... The MRI confirmed what he has thought all along, and also confirmed some suspicions I have had. I have 2 bulging discs, around C6 and C7. They are pressing onto the spinal cord and irritating the nerves. This is apparently why I have had pain shooting down both of my arms for the last 16 months. Yes, that is correct, it is very likely that the surgery I went through in March was not needed.
The chiropractor said, "A knife-happy surgeon would say 'Let's get you in right away.' A more conservative surgeon would say 'Let's look at our options and see what we need to do.' "  Of course that is just what the chiro says, I don't know what a surgeon will really say. There is a neuro surgeon in Evansville he wants me to have a consultation with. I go back to the chiro on Monday, and hopefully we will set something up at that point. He said if there was any hope of him helping me, we would be talking months of chiropractic visits. And then there is really not a guarantee. He said there's no guarantee that the disc won't shatter next week. (I don't think he said the word 'shatter', but I can't remember what terms he used.) He wants to see what the neurosurgeon says. He also told me that most times when someone has a bulging disc, it shifts to the left or right. Mine are shifting straight out.  The other thing that comes into play here is that I have met my deductible and out of pocket expense for this year. So if surgery is inevitable, it is better to do it before the end of the year. So, all my beloved xangians, please pray for wisdom. I want to have discernment when I talk to the neurosurgeon. I want to hear from God on what is my best course. I am not afraid of surgery, although my husband is pretty leary. He worries because some people who have had neck surgery are never the same. But there are so many who have had surgery and it has been wonderful. I believe I would be one of the wonderful people!

Also, an important note: I asked him what caused this to happen. He said it is quite likely from me sleeping on 2 pillows for all these years. He says I have forced my neck into an unnatural position. I've been down to 1 pillow since my 1st visit to him. But I think that is too little, too late. Get 1 good pillow people, forget stacking them up.

Some of our shrubs were planted yesterday. They are bringing the rest of them today. And then we need to get rock at some point. We had all this rock that we removed from the old landscaping, and we saved it by piling it on the side of our house. And now we find out we can't really use that rock because there is too much dirt mixed in and weeds will grow like crazy. It will look nice once it is done. Right now it looks kind of funny cause we have all this baby bushes out there. It's better than the dirt garden.

Okay, time to boogie.

I wish xanga didn't have a date at the top of each post. It makes me feel guilty when I see how long it's been since I last posted.

Went to my chiropractor yesterday (I go 3 times a week), and he told me I was the tightest lady he knew. He says something is definitely not right, because no matter what he does, I keep coming back as tight as ever. He is supposed to be clearing it with my insurance company to get a neck MRI done. Hopefully when I see him on Friday he will have an MRI set up for me.
The neck thing is most likely related to the right shoulder thing, which has never really gotten better. The cortisone shot last May helped for about 4-6 weeks. It's obviously not so bad that I am about to die, just irritating. And my left elbow is doing all the same things as my right elbow did before surgery last March. Guess I am just waiting for my chiro to declare me 'done' before I call the other doc.

Today our new foliage arrives. We dug out all the bushes in front of the house at the beginning of the summer, and now we have new bushes arriving today. We have a lady at church whose Dad runs a small nursery. We went down to his place a couple weeks ago and picked out some stuff. He is really cheap, that being a relative term when talking about landscaping. I think we have 37 bushes arriving. Tomorrow Jerry will plant them with the help of the lady's husband, who is the nursery owner's son-in-law, who is Caleb and Shelby's Dad. Just trying to confuse you there. Bottom line - I am excited about getting something colorful in front of the house. All summer long we've had this unsightly dirt garden.

Subbed as a secretary at the elementary on Tuesday. I am going to try to limit my mystery shopping to one day a week so that I am available when they call me to sub. The problem is that is they don't call me, we hurt financially. Guess I'm just hoping for the best.

Grout is finished at the church. Carpet will be laid at the end of this week and first of next week. The sound man is coming today I think to get all that installed. We are being held up by the annoying electrician. I think I've mentioned him before. He is pompous and seems to thrive on being in control and telling us we won't be in by the date we expected. He's had several months to do what needs to be done, yet he hasn't. Oh bah to him.

Did I tell you the old sanctuary is being moved to a former church member's property? He bought it for $1, and we are helping to pay for the expense of getting it moved. The idea behind us helping financially is that we would have had to pay to have it torn down anyway. And now the building will be saved. I think they are planning to move it around the middle of November.

I can't think of anything else exciting to report. Which is why the dates at the top of my posts get further and further apart.

Tonight is The Office. If you haven't caught it yet, catch it tonight. Although I'm not sure how funny it is when you pick up in the middle. It keeps us in stitches every Thursday.

Peace out.
